I will begin this article on motivational sport quotes with one from the great inspirational movie "Rocky ". "Rocky" is a movie about Rocky Balboa, a small-time boxer who gets a supremely rare chance to fight a heavy-weight champion in a boxing match in which Rocky strives to go the distance for his self-respect. In the movie Rocky Balboa said:
"It ain't about how hard you hit; It's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. It's how much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done."
This is a motivational sports quote that applies to all avenues of athletic events as well as personal and business. All great athletes have gone through this, haven't they? They have all been knocked down in one way or another so many times and yet keep getting back up on their feet once again to fight the good fight and continue to pursue their passion. Yet, the secret to these champions is in the second line of Rocky's quote: "It's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward." How many of us, who are still yards away from being a champion, can endure this? The greats in all sports can and have. That is why they are where they are. It is this image and accurate description that divides us.
When I was in my early thirties, I had been training in the Chinese martial arts for years. And being the only female in the class, my fellow martial artists always took it easy on me when it came to practice-fighting or "sparring". At the time, I was thankful. I had no desire to be hit harder than I thought I could take. One day when it was my turn to spar, my instructor whispered into the ear of the man I was about to fight. I didn't hear or know what he said. The man and I started sparring and all of a sudden he punched me in the face so hard that I actually saw "stars" and was knocked down onto the floor. It wasn't the pain that startled me, but the fact that I was hit so hard I fell to the ground. I got right back up, shook my head, and continued to fight him. My instructor then stopped the fight and told me what he whispered. He told my partner to: "Hit her hard enough in the face to knock her down."
Why would he say that? What was his reason behind it? He must have seen the movie Rocky...he wanted to see if I had what it takes to be successful at Martial Arts...to get back up and keep moving forward.
Now, I am not saying this is the way for all of us to learn, yet from that day forward I was never afraid of anything in my life. I just got the worst of what any woman fears, yet survived and became even better in my field. I will always remember great motivational sport quotes like that one.
The second of the motivational sport quotes is from the famous baseball player, Babe Ruth who said:
"It's hard to beat a person who never gives up."
Is this you? Do you have a dream and a passion? Have you started on your purpose in life then given up because things got tough? Or, have you found what you are good at and are still plugging away until you get there? I am doing the latter. I have found what I am good at and no matter what anyone tells me or says about me I will not give up until I reach the highest level possible. Is this you as well?
Another of the motivational sports quotes comes from the boxer, Muhammad Ali who said:
"Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion."
He did a lot of suffering going through training, practicing and boxing. He was one of the few who never gave up and that is what makes all the difference and eventually yields a great champion.
My final of the motivational sport quotes comes from the famous Tommy Lasorda :
"In baseball and in business, there are three types of people. Those who make it happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happened."
Which one are you? All the people mentioned above are the ones who made it happen. Are you only watching things happen around you to someone you know who is climbing the ladder of success? Are you saying, "He/she is just lucky" because they are making strides on their way to a prosperous and financially successful life? These people make their own luck. They work hard and have a definite goal to achieve. They have written down what they want to accomplish and have taken steps to get there. Have you? The saddest are the ones at the end of their time here on earth who say, "What happened with my life?" Let us not become one of them!
These motivational sport quotes can assist in any sport as well in any aspect of life and business. Let's take what the champions are saying and use the words to inspire and motivate us. They already know what it takes. Now the rest of us need the lesson.
Has life punched you in the face and knocked you down? Get right back up, shake it off and start fighting again. This game of life is for the ones who have the strongest will and determined mind set. We are not all athletes, yet all of us have a brain to work on and work out. Let us all be inspired to be the best we can be as individuals and take the most out of this life.
